Avast service constantly using 30% cpu

Today I updated my Avast Security to the latest version and it hung right at the end of install. I restarted pc and I ran repair on that install and have now got the latest version installed but the Avast service has been on a minimum of about 30% CPU ever since.

I cannot tell if it is running a scan as none of the screens show one in progress. I just ran a full system scan and after completing the service was still using 29%,

Its just strange as it hardly ever uses any resources.

Running Win 10 64bit on an I5 4690k with 16gb of ram

I just re ran Repair again, and it seemed to dwell a long time on the aswNdisFit which is where the original update hung, so iI thought it had fixed the problem but about 10 minutes after a restart it goes back to using 29% again. Should I remove it and reinstall?

I removed it and reinstalled it and thought, yes. its fixed… about 15 minutes later its at 29% again.

I think I know what is causing it, Home network scan is running and its not getting anywhere. It ignores me hitting stop too. I was tempted not to install that module, but I wasn’t sure if it would affect anything else.

Anyway to force it to stop?

  • Which version of avast!..?

  • Other security related software installed…?

  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Internet Security 2016

Program version: 11.1.2241
Virus version: 151116-1

I have malwarebytes installed.

PC is only 6 months old, its always had Avast on it. Nothing else.

I turned Home Network Security off in tools and restarted the PC and it appears to have stopped using 29%. I am watching it though.

Home Network Security does not increase CPU i report your issue to avast!
