Avast Service keeps stopping - clean install of latest version on Windows

My computer has an Intel Pentium G620 2.60Ghz CPU, 8GB RAM.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1, 64 bit with all “important” updates installed.

I have Avast Free Program version 11.1.2245
Virus definitions 151204-3

I have done an uninstall,
followed by a clean install using avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe (file version 11.1.2245.1540, 153MB),
followed by a reboot.

The avast service keeps stopping (twice in the last 30 minutes or so).

I have tried a repair, followed by a reboot, but the problem remains.

I would welcome any advice.

How did you remove Avast before doing a New install of Avast ???
What other security related programs are you running on your system ???
What AV did you use prior to installing Avast and how was it removed ???
