Avast - Shields wont turn on, Scan not working correctly

Having problems with Avast not functioning as it should. (and task manager shows high usage of CPU + slows down PC - mainly while online)

  1. Scans

I have a full scan scheduled once a day, When i look at the scan history the scans are showing as “done”, however they only take a few seconds and number of files checked is zero. When i try to do this manually the same happens.

After a reboot, it functions as should (takes around 1 hour as normal) and reports all ok.

After a while, it reverts back to not working as it should

  1. Sheilds switched off.

At the same time, i get warnings that both:

Anti Exploit Shield is off

Anti Rootkit Shield is off.

Neither will switch back on - though no warnings straight after a reboot.

  1. Task Manager

Not sure if relevant, but shows a number of “RegSvr.exe” process running (not after a reboot, but after some time has passed)

  1. Command Screen ?

Occasionally a small "black / dos box ? flashes momentarily on screen then disappear’s - to quick to read.

  • Open Notepad (click Start button → type notepad.exe → press Enter)
  • Copy text from code block below and paste it into Notepad

  • Go to File → Save As
  • Make sure that UTF-8 is selected as Encoding (left side of Save button)
  • Save it as fixlist.txt on Desktop
  • Open again FRST and click on button Fix
  • Wait until FRST finishes
  • fixlog.txt should be genereted and opened. Attach it your post and wait further instructions.

Unisntall because you have very old PC and too much security software.

What is system status now?

When i removed spybot as instructed… it needed a reboot to finish.

After reboot, avast does not show any notifications & scan works fine. (it did this for a while before i posted this thread & the issues kicked in after some time / use).

Ive been “online” for a bit and so far nothing has changed… fingers crossed.

If the issue does re-occur i will let you know.

Alas, Avast has reverted to how it was before.

Whilst i was looking at emails in outlook, a Comand Promt box opened briefly. Shortly after a RegSvr.exe process was showing in Windows Task manager.

After about 10 minutes Avast shows 2 notifications for sheilds being switched off & Scan is not working.
