Avast sometimes tells me when I’m visiting a dangerous site. Donnaplay should be added to the list.
. False advertising: I accidentally found them while searching for a specific book. Donnaplay made me sign up "for a “free trial” to look at it. Once I signed up, the book wasn’t there.
. Default subscription at a ridiculously high rate: due to the fine print, Donnaplay started charging me $29.95/month for a service I had never used, and which contains nothing you can;t get cheaper (often free) elsewhere. I doubt they get any subscriptions except from people they trick and cause pain to.
. $1 fee to cancel!!! When you go to cancel, the default option is “express cancellation” which costs $1. Even i you notice, they scare you with the idea you may be charged another $29.95 unless you use this option.
. Poor customer service. I complained on their Facebook page and they refunded my money, but (a) they stuck me with a $3 loss due to exchange rate (I’m in Canada) and they refused to refund the $1. I will keep reminding them on their Facebook page and hope to get a better result.
For me personally, I have not seen ripoff sites like this since the 1990’s. If we don;t protest strongly, the owner is going to brag at his club about the millions he’s making, and there will be copy cats. I don;t want to return to the days when the internet was a minefield.
