Avast shredder corrupts the disk NTFS file system on my 4 disks

:police_car_light: WARNING: Avast Shredder is corrupting entire disks
I’ve used Avast Shredder on 4 different drives now — and every single time, it has corrupted the NTFS file system.

Intel SSD (Win11): Ran a “free space shred” — boom, OS corrupted, drive unusable.

Western Digital HDD: Shredded a folder — suddenly the entire folder structure collapsed. My GitHub repos were next to go.

Seagate ( with BitLocker): Plugged it in after a clean shred — encryption configs must’ve been touched. Result? Files gone, bitlocker not there, drive unreadable.

Toshiba HDD (Today): Shredded a random folder — now it’s “corrupted and unreadable.” The corruption spread beyond the folder into other private files(I shared the image).

This tool isn’t just deleting files — it’s damaging partition integrity. I’ve now had to move 400GB off a dying drive just to save what’s left.

This is not safe, not secure, and definitely not trustworthy.
If your shredder keeps doing low-level writes without respecting NTFS metadata or BitLocker configs, then it shouldn’t exist. You’re not protecting privacy — you’re wiping entire drives. Am fully up to date on the AV too, latest version.

:stop_sign: Please REMOVE this tool or give users a massive warning — you’re destroying real people’s data. Not cool.

Hi
Just a heads up that this is a user forum and no gaurantee an avast employee will reply. Maybe best to start a support ticket.
No idea whats happened there but ive used shreader on a monthly basis for well over 8 years and never had an issue. most of mine were simple pdf or word docs though. maybe a silly question but has to be asked, you was clicking on file and not drive to wipe.
Hopefully someone can advise further.
