Avast / Skype

Hello,

I have a problem with Skype because of Avast. I can’t call or receive any calls via Skype if Avast is enabled. I can only receive or give calls if I disable Avast, please can someone help with this issue.

I went in Avast/Firewall/Application Rules and set to allow all connections for Skype, sadly with no success :frowning:

Edit: Added Skype to the exception list, still with no success.

More info is needed:

a) What is your Windows OS? Service Pack?
b) What was your previous antivirus software? Before installing Avast, after using add/remove did you run it’s uninstall/removal tool in safe mode to remove all remnants of your previous antivirus?
c) What firewall do you have?

Hi Staticguy,

To answer your questions:

a) Windows 7, 64 bit, SP 1
b) I didn’t had any previous software, used Avast. I didn’t had this problem about a month ago, yesterday when I wanted to do another skype call with a person it didn’t work anymore. I tried again today and it still doesn’t work, I can’t even call the “Echo / Sound Test Service”.
c) The firewall from Avast, which manages the one from Windows also.

What version of Avast do you have? About the Echo/Sound Test Service by the sounds of that you may have some audio problems or audio drivers problem? Every computer comes with a pre-installed 30 day trial antivirus program.

I have the last version of Avast Internet Security. It’s not the drivers fault, if I disable the Avast shields, Skype runs immediately without any problems.

Check the avast log file to see what part of skype is blocked and set the correct rule for it in the firewall.

I just checked the logs and it shows like nothing is blocked :-\

Check the other logs as well.
It can be one of the other detection methods is blocking it.

You can also try this :
Disable one of the shields and try to use Skype.
If it doesn’t solve the problem, enable the shield and disable the next one.
Try again to use Skype etc.

Just checked all of them, the problem is with the firewall.

I checked the logs again and they showed something now. It looks like the firewall is blocking Skype, please can someone tell me how to fix this. I’m running out of options :frowning:

Sorry Eddy, it doesn’t help :frowning:

Setting up the application to allow all connections was one of my first steps and it didn’t help :frowning:

F… it, I will uninstall Avast and install it again, maybe that will fix the issue. I will come back with an update.

EDIT: It helped like Kate Winslet helped Leonardo in Titanic when she was on that God damn door, with exactly nothing.

After I reinstalled Avast it worked, as soon as I upgraded to Internet Security it stopped working. I am so disappointed in Avast right now, after a +6 years relationship it goes and does this s…t.
IDK maybe it’s time to move to another vendor.

I did all the set up again on the application to allow all connections, and it did nothing.
Now in the logs under rule it shows as Public/High Risk Zone , instead of Multicast (what it showed before I reinstalled it).

Sorry for wasting your time guys, really appreciate you trying to help me.

All the best wishes.
