This is a pretty cut and dry issue…when Avast is activated, I top out at 10mbs…when it’s disabled or paused, I’m at 30mbs, which is where it should be. I have run multiple tests on speedtest.net, and the results are always the same.
Any settings in Avast that can correct this problem???
To see if this is correct you need to download a huge file, and time the download with Avast and without avast
I had the same problem with Malwarebytes IP protection, but i was just the IP protection of Malwarebytes fooling the speedometer at speedtest.net
Thank you!!! I will try doing that later on, after I get back from doing a few things…but let’s just assume it’s slower with avast running, is there not anything I can do?
Thanks, all, for taking the time out to help.
I’ll try and list the specs, but I’m not too technical, so bear with me ;D
I have a 2.66 core duo processor
8 mb ram
windows 7 pro 64 bit
sony vaio, is the make
As far as programs running at start, i keep it at a minimum. avast, bluetooth, my printer, adobe, and some other commands that I have no idea what they are (as per C Cleaner).
As an update to this problem, I tested other locations at speedtest.net, and it’s either 10mbs or 30 mbs, but I’ve achieved 30 mbs with avast running. I suppose maybe Avast is not always a problem, but sometimes I do get internet slowdown when it’s running. When I have it disabled, I’m always at 30 mbs. Any ideas?
It depends on how many people on the same cable connection and what they are doing.
I get reliable results: Last Result:
Download Speed: 5892 kbps (736.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 664 kbps (83 KB/sec transfer rate)
Speed (advantage - Cable): Cable boasts faster speed than DSL Internet in theory. However, cable does not always deliver on the promise in everyday practical use.
so my conclusion to this highly scientific test… :D… is that the slowdown is minimal
and that the web shield is fooling the speedometer at speedtest.net
