Since I installed Avast one month ago, I have noticed that the performance of my pc has drastically slowed.
Start up, from the point I have logged into my Windows Username, usually takes about 15 seconds… now it takes closer to 30-seconds, in excess of a minute.
Loading games takes longer. Counter-Strike takes now 2 or 3 minutes to load when it did it before in 1.
World of Warcraft lags insanely now. It never used to.
So my question is… Is there a way to cut down on this system slowness? Or do i have to uninstal Avast and find another AV?
What i’ve down now is just go into task manager and disable all forms of avast… but thats annoying… i shouldnt have to do this.
hey, before you tell me to search, try doing a search as I did… “Avast slows down pc” “pc slow” “slow down pc”
None of those turned anything up within the first 5 page… which is hwo long i Searched for, for each search query. Nothing.
So don’t go telling me to search… I’m not an idiot. I’m not a robot either… so don’t treat me like one.
Since you’ve almost told me what to search for, I can actually get results.
Thank you for the spattered help.
I agree with you about those who tell you to search for your answer. If the poster does not have the answer then they could tell you what to search for otherwise it is better not to post at all… :
I was just curious what your former AV was, since you didn’t say it’s possible you had a very light weight AV. Also I assume you have not added anything else soon after installing Avast. The degraded processing time you are experiencing certainly could be because you had much less resources used by your previous AV.
I can tell you from my own perspective I have just installed Avast a couple of days ago and I actually notice that the system works moderately FASTER.
My former AV was NAV2004 which was a little to much of a resource hog for me. I was concerned about Avast but so far I am running everything except the Outlook protection (whatever program that is) and as I said found that my computer is certainly not slower, but seems somewhat faster so far.
Also the system you use, speed, memory etc could be a factor. I only have 400 mghz speed and only 96 ram, but I have not noticed a problem at all so far.
