I get the follwoing error when my computer starts.
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click ok to terminate the application
Just switched to Avast from McAfee. Unistalled McAfee through control panel. Any ideas?
What version of McAfee, just AV or Suite ?
If just the AV try one of these tols depending on version.
McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

I had the suite.
It sucked.
ran the program anyway. command promp came up saying removal will began at 22:37 (current time) hit any key. I hit any key it goes away. that all it’s supposed to do?
There should be more to it. Some more info on running the tool can be found here. Seems similar to the avast tool.
Nope. Ran that tool. restarted ran it again just to make. restarted. same error message. uninstalled avast. restarted redownloaded and reinstalled. restarted. same message.
Running without AV makes me nervous. Any other suggestions?

Something to try first as it is happening on start-up, avast Program Settings, Troubleshooting, check the ‘Delay the loading of avast! services after other system services’ box.
I don’t know if this might help but it is a quick option to try.
Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).

still nothing. i uninstalled avast. restarted. reran the mcafee cleaner. restarted. cleaned out the registry files. restarted. reinstalled avast. restarted. same error.
I have zone alarm does avast have any compatabilities problems with that. Also have spybot search and destroy. and windows defender runs as well.
This is getting really annoying. I don’t know what could possibly be causing the problem.

I can’t even open the program. after my PC has started. I get the same eroor. hit ok and then a box pops up and says avast splash screen has stopped working
Try booting into safe mode, http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml, avast doesn’t start in safe mode. There is an avast icon on the desktop try double clicking that this should start avast, first a memory check is done and then the simple user interface is displayed. Right click on the skin (or the Menu icon) and select Settings and see if you can get to Troubleshooting that way.
If that doesn’t work there is a possibility that avast didn’t install properly because of remnants, which hopefully after using the other removal tools you can try a clean reinstall.
Download the latest version of avast (if you haven’t saved your previous download) http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot install the latest version, reboot.
Same error message when I do it in safe mode. I ran the uninstall program and then reinstalled and still nothing. followed your directions to a T
