Avast Stuck Installing/Uninstalling

Hello everyone! I’ve been using Avast Free Antivirus consistently for about 4 years now and never had any problems. However, recently, it told me that it needed to update virus definitions. I’m used to this, so I accepted. For 48 hours, it was stuck at 0%. It didn’t let my computer shutdown because the setup was running. So, to get Avast updated I decided to try a clean install since nothing else was working. However, when attempting to uninstall from the computer Control Panel, it said that the setup was running and didn’t let me start the uninstaller. I followed instructions in another forum thread for bypassing this error. I turned off the self-defense from the avast control panel and used task manager to kill the setup process. It still couldn’t uninstall for some reason. No tasks relating to avast were in Task Manager, I checked thoroughly. I downloaded the online installer for avast and started it. For a second, everything seemed fine. It started installing Avast, but before it reached the end it got stuck. Once again, there was nothing relating to Avast or the setup in task manager. It’s just stuck on my screen now. It says: “Your Avast Free Antivirus installation is in progress. Do not turn off your computer.”

Nothing is happening, and it’s been like this for 30 minutes. Any advice? Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Issue has been resolved.

UPDATE: Restarted computer anyways. Avast opened and all text was corrupted. Managed to open the installer and chose repair. About to restart computer.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.
