For seemingly no reason yesterday, when I went to access a specific website I use for work, I get a popup saying “Alert! The document contains no data.”
I have tried adding the site to the “Exceptions” list, but it doesn’t help.
When I turn off the Web Shield, I can access the site just fine, but once I turn the Web Shield back on, even if I am in the site and click an internal link, I get the same popup and am stopped from doing anything.
I have had Avast installed for almost a month now, and this just began happening yesterday, to one specific URL.
This may not be a problem with Web Shield. I’m seeing the same thing with a few sites and it appears to be a problem with the Windows Update from the 12th.
Are you running XP? If so, did you install the updates that just came out?
I get that “no data” message too sometimes with FF – most commonly with sites that I know are frequently either down for maintenance or else overloaded. I suspect it’s just FF’s equivalent of IE’s “not currently available” error message.
FF does differ in its “standard” practices from IE in several ways that take some getting used to. If you Stop in the middle of loading an image, for instance, you’ll usually get a “can’t display because it contains errors” message.
Yes, I am using FF. As an example, www.cnn.com will load in IE after the Windows Update, but the page will not load in FF. I don’t think this has anything at all to do with Web Shield.
GMail can be displayed in FF for me but not in Maxthon or IE…
I think it’s something related to ActiveX, Java, Scripts, etc…
Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks…
By the way, it’s not WebShield… Disabling it has no effect on lauching emails in GMail…
No problem here with firefox, web shield and Outpost firewall, I’m however using the latest avast beta release 4.6.639, this may or may have a positive effect.
Are you using any other security/privacy program/settings that may have an effect, such as cookie blocking, etc.?
I’m using 4.6.639, but I know this is not an Avast issue because I see the same results with Web Shield turned off. The only other software between me and the Internet is Kerio Personal Firewall, and I know that isn’t causing this problem.
I don’t really care, though, because it’s not affecting any site that I would normally go to. I hate CNN. LOL
Well, for the record, I am on XP, but haven’t grabbed any updates in at least a month or so, that isn’t the issue.
I am mainly using FireFox but the exact same problem happens in IE as well.
I’d post the URL, but it is a password protected site, so it wouldn’t do anyone much good.
I am fairly sure it is an issue with Avast (4.6.623) because when I turn the Web Shield off, it is no longer a problem.
As an example, I have turned the Web Shield off, logged into the site and hit a few pages.
When I turn the Web Shield back on, ANY link I click within the site gives me the same error and no new pages will load. The problem is identical in both IE and FireFox.
I dunno - I guess I’ll just have to turn the Web Shield on and off for use of this particular site.
