Shutting down while installing drivers? You’re looking for big trouble.
False positives are to be corrected, not blamed.
Can you give us more details of which Nvidia driver we’re talking about? (links to download, VirusTotal links, etc.). Thanks.
Before making an assumption statement such as your please be prepared to backup your thread. Avast actually has an extremely low false positive rating. Several other companies are far worse. Comodo has the highest actually. Just check out AV Comparatives. Also where did you download the Nvidia drivers from? Right from the Nvidia site? Post a link so I can test it myself. Other then that the title of your thread is extremely inaccurate and false.
Nothing wrong with temporarily “shutting down Avast” to install drivers. But when its re-enabled it will detect it from. Until we have proof of this false positive such as Virustotal link or better yet the Avast log its just smoke.
I clearly stated “temporarily”. I went through this eariler today. Even huge companies like EA Games and Blizzard give advice about temporarily shutting down your antivirus to allow a program to install properly.
I usually do a manual scan of the driver executable, and assuming all is well, I disable the real time protection, install the driver
and then re-enable.
