Avast tray icon has an "X" on it.

Hi,
Ever since i installed the newer version of avast free with the orange tray icon,about 3 times a week the orange tray icon has an “X” on it and i have to fix it.
I never had this problem when the tray icon was blue with the older versions.
I have version 5.0.594 now

What causes this program to be so unstable.

have you removed any previous antivirus you had ? Have you used a removal tool for it to clean all leftovers ? Try and reboot http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

also avast repair and reboot
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
