Avast Turned Off?

Hello Avast Fans,

Just installed Avast Home on my Dad’s new computer with Vista Home Premium. Noticed the lack of a blue icon in the tray - and then find in the Security Center that Avast is turned off.

This is the only AV program this computer has ever had - any ideas/help?

Thanks in advance.

Well…don’t I feel silly. Needed one more restart - all good now.

For the record, this was the fifth restart. I’d been installing a few programs and downloading updates but still suprised that it needed this many restarts before taking effect. Vista - looks pretty, but a wee bit strange to I who’ve never used it before.

Anyone able to delete this thread? If so, thank you.

I would tend to look beyond the VSC, if it pops-up this again.

The avast processes in Task Manager begin with ash or asw, see image ?

I take it that the avast icon is now displayed and the VSC is no longer reporting avast is off ?

Which was your old antivirus (i.e., the one installed before avast)? How did you remove (uninstall) it?

Answered in his first post.

Sorry.
Maybe his computer is infected and avast could not get correctly installed.
Read the instructions, download and burn (maybe from another computer), finally use one of this rescue CD’s:

  1. Avira
  2. Kaspersky
  3. BitDefender
  4. F-Secure
  5. Dr. Web

Then repair avast installation or install avast from the scratch.

In Windows Vista and Seven you will find only ashDisp.exe in the “Processes” section…
The other parts of avast! are under “Services”.

Thanks, I don’t use Vista.

A pain that they also don’t show the file name but the service name.
