Well, I uninstalled Malwarebytes and I still get the red X over the Avast icon.
So that wasn’t the problem. The “Avast is down” message comes up constantly.

Have you tried the following ???
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

If you need additional help with the Clean Install, watch this:

Yeah, I’ve done both several times.
The only thing left is the following:
Submitting a support file to Avast
Instructions how to use it can be easily found:

Thanks for the link.
I’ll follow the instructions.
I never submitted a support file. There are too many people having this problem for Avast to address each case one-on-one. There needs to be a post in this forum from Avast Support addressing this issue. After you try the repair, re-installation, and turn on remote desktop services… then what? Whenever I get the “Avast UI failed to load” with the red X, it freezes my internet. I can’t get pages to come up, so I must constantly restart Avast. This thread has been going since last year, and there has been no solution. I finally had to just uninstall Avast. I had this anti-virus software for years, but this problem was making it impossible for me to use my computer.
You never did mention what OS version and what version of Avast you are using.
On my first post I said I’m on Microsoft XP. And I had the latest version of Avast Free that came out a few days ago.
I am having the same problem. I have Avast Free on a WinXP Pro computer and a Win7 Pro 64 bit computer. They’ve both run flawlessly “forever”. But I went to download Avast Free on a (new to me) Win7Pro 64 bit machine. There had been other antivirus programs on the computer. I used the Avast clean removal tool and the McAfee removal tool, but when I install Avast Free, I get the dreaded “UI Failed to load” message no matter what I do. I’ve tried “repair” through Control Panel/Programs&Features/ to no avail. I’ve completely unloaded, cleaned again, reloaded. Nope. The windows services previously mentioned in this topic are running. There IS an older version of Malwarebytes on the computer, but it is malware-only and only runs manually on demand.
Seems like this issue has existed now for quite a while and it is not an isolated instance. Any new fixes or suggestions?
