By the way: the word '“Gebruikersinterface” should just be one word. The same goes for ‘Probleemoplossing”.
Please don’t butcher the language. I get why a hyphen is added in the left column, but in the main window header it should be one continuous word. Dutch people can read such words just fine, and breaking them up only makes people get used to misspellings and thus stupider and stupider. Yes; hyphens are allowed to aid readability in extreme cases, but the aim is not to cater to the lowest common denominator.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
I suspect that this has to do with the Column Heading Width not being wide enough for a conjoined word, so it breaks them when there is insufficient space for the conjoined word.
Yes it looks terrible, but I don’t know how they would get round this without having a wider/flexible column width in what appears to be a fixed with space for the whole User Interface.
I will try and draw some Avast Team input into this matter.
I thought so too, but—at least for the French version—I was able to verify that this wasn’t the case; words that extend beyond the column width aren’t written with a “-” (as is often the case when “long” words end a line in French literature), nor with visible line break tag, .

Like I said before: I understand why a hyphen might be added in the left column with long words. Spread it over two lines and have it still make some sense. Fine. But the same word is also hyphenated, and to add insult to injury, doubly capitalized, in the main screen itself. That is just wrong.
Even where a hyphen is warranted, it shouldn’t have the line break visible as text in the UI. That seems like poor localization quality control.
@chris… There are two columns to the left of the main screen on the UI. The column that has text spilling over to a second line in your screenshot is seperate from the one next to it. Which is where the text spills over in my Dutch screenshot. I don’t know if both columns have the same behavior for this. But probably.
Personally I think the hyphens aren’t automatically inserted by the UI, but are manually added at translation to fit the UI column width. Except somehow the line breaks weren’t cleaned up or something. And again: in the main screen there is no need for a hyphen to begin with.
Yes, I understand, but the whole point of my message was precisely to say that your “-” and your “br>” are not related to a column width issue, as DavidR thinks.
And yes, as I said (or thought), your problem is certainly linked to the translation (a bug), since there’s no issue with the French version.
It wouldn’t be the first time there’s been a display issue on the UI due to the translation.
I remember a similar issue in the French version with words containing accents that don’t exist in English.
