I recently uninstalled avast and I figured I would run the uninstall utility to get rid of any left over files or registry entries. I know it wasn’t necessary but I figured it couldn’t hurt. Anyway, I accidentally picked the wrong version of avast and ran the tool. What exactly does the tool remove? Was there any harm done in running it?
Thanks

What version(s) of avast! were you running?
aswclear.exe removes all remaining deep-level avast! system drivers left over on uninstall, which is why you must reboot your system after running this tool. Hopefully this was done is Safe Mode only.
See here for any other uninstalled a/v’s used in the past: http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

What version(s) of avast! were you running? Appears to be more than one? [EDIT:]

[ol]- Obtain a new fresh copy of 2014 here: http://www.avast.com/en-us/download-software
Use aswclear.exe to remove the other existing version of avast! in Safe Mode.
Reboot.[/ol]
See: http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle Never run two active a/v’s at the same time on the same system.

Marok,
I tried to summarize a lot of the good posts on the clean un/re/install process in this thread…perhaps it may help.
