anyone having troubles with the update that happened this morning?
i got the update this morning, rebooted, when it got to desk top view, toolbar down bottom right of screen took about 10 minutes to load avast and everything else. task manager showed ashserv.exe using 110000 when normally about 25000. then the system freezes and crashes
it appears it might be my nivdia firewall!!! have uninstalled it now and everything seems ok, must have just been a coicidence it happened at same time as update for me
thanks
I would say there is certainly an issue, what is the question.
I would first ask where you downloaded avast from ?
If it is an old version it is possible that there could be both program and VPS updates to be done.
However, even with a very slow dial-up connection (you don’t say what your connection is?) a complete download of the latest version (4.8.1335) of the full program including VPS shouldn’t take that long.
What is your OS ?
What is your firewall ?
What is your CPU and how much RAM do you have on your system ?
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
I’ve recently been having a similar problem with updates[I keep getting “Other HTTP error (403)”]; my network admin recently set up a content regulator, would that be a kind of firewall that would interfere with the process?
If so, where could I go from there/what should I ask them to adjust?
Can’t your network admin help you setting this?
avast does not have a firewall so it won’t be blocking its own update.
Please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
HTTP Error 403 is an error message which means that you are not authorized to view the web page which you are attempting to load…
So you don’t have permission to view the content or you haven’t gone through the regular channel which may include entering a password. So avast can’t do anything about the lack of permission.
So speaking to the network admin about getting the 403 error on a certain page and they should know if you actually have permission to view the content on instruct you how to gain permission, e.g. logon through a gateway page, etc.
