Avast update error + computer not working

Two days ago Avast triwd to update but there was an error. I rebooted my computer to scan on startup and after that no programs work. IE Chrome FF and Avast will not stRt up. Any ideas?

welcome to the forum.

i suggest you try to repair avast as a first option.

go start/ controlpanel/ add/remove programs, scroll down to avast and hit the remove button.

a new screen should come up, from there hit the repair option.

if this should not work.

try a installation from scratch.

good luck

Detected two or three things. I rebooted anr scanned. When finish, computer did not work properly anymore.

I can not download anything as not browsing works.

Try this : Start Menu > Command (run as admin) > type in SFC /SCANNOW and run that which should deal with the corrupted files.

As AdrianH posted above please run the SFC repair, Start Menu > accessories > Command Prompt - right click (run as admin) > type or copy in SFC /SCANNOW and click enter, this should fix your problem.

I think this solved everything. Everything seems to work fine now. Thanks alot. You provided better service than thw Avast employees themselves…

Thank you for helping me. Really appreciated it.

Your welcome

Unfortunately now my computer goes to a black acreen after the windows logo.

Are you able to get to safe mode ? if so then open up computer and right click on C drive\properties\tools check drive for errors and tick both boxes then click start and you will then be asked to reboot, try that and let us know how it goes.

Safe mode does not work. No repair option. And system recoveries does not work.

I would normally refer this to essexboy now but he’s away till the 6th of october so hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge can shed some light on this for you.

I hope someone replies soon. I can not wait for essexboy as I need my computer asap. Know any other forums that may help me?

If you cant wait for someone here maybe ask in the virus and worms section of the forum with a link to this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0 or you can try http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/

I dont think its malware vut I will try them.

Even if it’s not malware the team over there will be able to get you sorted and your system at least up and running, might also pay to include a link to this thread for them to follow up what has been going on with your system.
