So I started up my computer and right away I got this message from Avast (The usual, virus, click here for more info):
AvastEmupdate.exe is Avast Emergency update.
Ist detected as suspicious, please report this major false positive via this form here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php
It is almost certainly a false positive on the avast emergency updater going about its work, it checks for the presence of any emergency update right after boot. The evo-gen detection can be somewhat sensitive, that said I haven’t had any alert on this, ensure that you have the latest virus definitions as I’m sure this would be corrected quickly.
It is a bit strange that this file is detected as it is digitally signed by avast, which really should ensure that it hasn’t changed.
The latest virus definitions version is 131004-1 and there have been many streaming updates today, so I would hope it would have been corrected already.
Hi,
I think my computer got the same message during an Avast definitions update a few minutes ago, so it hasn’t been sorted out yet by Avast. Screen shot below.
I am not used to getting alerts, as I run Noscript and Adblock and generally frequent pretty banal websites, so if any of you more knowledgeable folks could please let me know if I am supposed to do anything in reaction to this, I’d appreciate it. My computer savvy-ness peaked with Windows 95, so the less technical jargon, the better, though I’ll try to understand what you say. ???
ps yes, i will check back to read any response(s), despite being a new registrant with only one post.
For your information: Avast Emergency Update is an program which checks for Bugfixes and updates when the
normal update routine is not working correctly.
Please report this with some information(Operating system, 32 or 64 bit, Avast version, database version…) you may add a link to this topic in case
they reply here.
Database version can be found under Maintenance>Update, you can also find the Avast version there.
Thank you, Steven. I have contacted Avast as you suggested.
