I am running Windows 7 64bit.
Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
This utility says to point to the driectory in which Avast is installed. I had previously uninstalled Avast, so there is no installation folder.
Do you not have a cleaner that simply scans the computer and registry and then uninstalls all Avast-related entries?
This is a real pain!
No, there is not such tool.
Only way to completely remove avast is doing it manually.
Remove all folders, files and registry entries.
Which registry entries??? May I please have a definitive list.
I cleaned the registry and I’m still getting this popup!! This is ridiculous! May I please have a list of the appropriate registry entries that should be deleted.
There is no such list as it depends on the system where avast is installed.
And as it is a application that is used to show you the message, start with removing all folder and files from avast.
As I said previously, I’ve already uninstalled the product and gotten rid of all Avast-related folders and tried cleaning the registry.
Am I now stuck with the company’s intruding popups because you don’t know how to get rid of them?
It is not my product.
And I already told you how to get rid of it.
Well, that obviously didn’t work.
Is there someone at Avast who can help with this?
It does work if you do it properly.
If you remove everything from avast, it can’t show you that message (or any other for that matter).
The “uninstall-utility” instruction says to point to the folder where Avast is installed. As Avast had already been uninstalled from my computer, there is no such folder. I’ve cleaned the registry of entries relating to Avast. There’s obviously the remnant of something that is causing this popup to recur. Ironically, it mentions an Avast Windows 10 update but my machine is running Windows 7.
Would installing the program and then using the uninstall utility do the job? If not, does Avast have a technical support perosn who can help with this issue?
Well Paul, I got the same error and I agree: it is indeed a persistent error and not very easy to resolve this problem.
I also removed the programm first and than used the utility, and it worked When the uninstaller asked what the installation folders were I left it like it was (the default) and just pressed continue. However, you may try to just create the empty folders the uninstaller wants in order to make the uninstaller happy
