Avast! User Interface Appears as a Whitebox

Hello, everyone.
I have been using Avast! for a long time now, probably since last year. Recently, I cleaned my computer using CCleaner, and then I disabled most services that started up upon Windows starting, in hopes that it would improve my system performance (as I had a lot of legitimate programs that started when my laptop boots.)

Unfortunately, however, it appears I have somehow broken Avast! and I am now receiving a white screen whenever I try to open the Avast! user interface.

Any helps or tips would be appreciated.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

This hasn’t fixed my issue, sadly.
And I checked the services as well, there’s an AVG service (which is disabled since I uninstalled AVG in favor of Avast) but the Avast service itself is enabled.

I can’t think of anything that would cause Avast to whitescreen.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Free Edition
17.2.2288
Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit
Malware Bytes
AVG & MacAfee (both are uninstalled)

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Avast still appears as a white box.

Maybe you’ve cleaned too much, do you’ve a restore point…?

I do not, and I don’t think an resorting to a factory reinstall (which is the only one available) is worth it to fix the interface of one program.

I’ll see if booting into Safe Mode and deleting every trace of Avast will help.

I’m not too sure though.

got same problem, yesterday patched avast on new version now when I open user interface I get whitebox, but when I open any other avast option it works normal
