Good morning,
A couple of months ago I upgraded to avast premium security. A week or two ago Avast started showing a popup every time I restart the computer about the wifi having been analysed and that I should change the password. After ten minutes, the popup appears again. This happens even though I have the silence mode on, and it is too disturbing for me, because the popup shows in front of whatever app I may be using at that time.
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Is this a notification of the password is weak ?
This sounds like the Network Inspector at work.
Two options A - you could a have a stronger password or B - Switch off that option to check for weak passwords in the Network Shield settings. Option B would leave you weaker and could lead to exploit depending on what the warning is about.
I am having a similar problem. The popup is telling me every time I start using the laptop - not after a reboot but just after sleeping for a while that my wifi is safe. I put it on various modes and eve on silent mode it is popping up all the time. Just started in the last day or two; what is going on? Very annoying. I have had avast premium security for years.
A similar problem ?
What is it telling you ?
It is hard to suggest anything without more detailed information.
Have you tried the suggestions made in relation to weak passwords, if this is what it is ?
it’s telling me my network is safe. and that I can finish the scan. and then I click finish, it goes to a screen that tells me other products I should buy - such as driver update - which gave me problems years ago and I won’t repurchase. I click no, screen goes away. Next time I ‘wake up’ my laptop to do something else, the screen comes back about my network being safe, etcc etc
Are you running a Smart Scan as that at the end of the scan offers paid products for what it considers weaknesses in your protection. Of course these are paid products.
I have been using Avast Antivirus for Windows (Free version) for over 20 years and never found the need for these additions.
The WiFi Messages as I have said can be addressed in the Network Inspector settings.
This may also help.
Thanks! will check these out. I haven’t changed any settings recently so didn’t know why this was happening. I tried limited mode and it still popped up, even when I changed to silent mode. Do I need to restart to change these settings?
The update to Avast version 25.2.xxxx introduced some (unwanted) changes.
You still don’t say what these popups are about. But my guess would be the Network Inspector and why I posted the images for the settings I currently have.
Thank you. That seems to have done the trick. I did tell you about the popups - the only message was that the network was safe and I should finish a scan that I hadn’t started. So I turned off the automatic scan setting and some of those settings in the screenshots you showed. I appreciate your help
You’re welcome.
Avast is aware of these issues introduced after the update to 25.2.xxxx, but to find out why and correct this is in their hands.
My avast is doing something very similar, popping up with a notification that says my wifi is unsecured and has no password (spoiler alert: it does have a password). Usually when I x out of these alert, it will immediately pop back up. And it will do this every time I stop using my computer for a while. So, maybe a good 10 times a day. It even interrupted a class I was teaching on zoom. I will try disabling the smart scan above but I already switched it to limited mode with no changes.
Avast, if you’re reading this I will 100% switch to another anti-virus if this keeps up much longer (I already get enough unwanted advertising and pop-ups from this software as it is).
Mine has just started doing this after 25.3 update 4 days ago.
on a new boot and as mentioned wifi no problems found then close that page and all the usual gumf in red these are not protected advert.
will get a screenshot on next boot.
Ive checked the settings that David has suggested and they are all ticked.
popup is already set to limited mode.
Limited Mode won’t impact these Network Inspector notifications you need to look at the Network Inspector settings image I posted in this topic.
Probably the ones in the Yellow especially the Notify me about new Network scan progress.
The only thing that stopped the annoying popup screen for me was to turn off the automatic scan of new networks. This morning I got a notification in the corner that I just connected to a new network when I woke my laptop from sleep and it reconnected to the same network. It looks to me like Network inspector isn’t properly recognizing what networks were previously connected to.
Same issue. Moreover, when I set on “Silent Mode + Threat alerts” so it won’t bother me, it still displays network information after every restart or wake-up from hibernation and prompts me to purchase additional components.
There’s also one persistent notification (badge) in the alert window. I would expect this in “Silent Mode” without threat alerts.
Because of this constant annoyance, I’m considering switching from Avast Premium Security to another paid tool (probably Bitdefender).
hmm, no popup today and ive not changed anything.
