I’ve got the following problem and I’m not quite sure if this is the right forum… anyway. Here it comes:
In our company we are using ADNM to distribute avast to our clients. All the clients have Win XP installed. Everything works perfectly.
Now, as you surely know it’s becoming hard to get new XP machines. That’s why I started to test Vista (business) on one single Computer.
Client deployment works fine. After allowing avast to start (blocked autostart programs) all providers work fine as far as I can tell. The problem is that I’m not able to scan single files (right klick → scan). I always get: “Error basInitLibrary - initialization of basic library failed!”. Just reinstalling the product (as told in other posts) does not help. The funny thing is that if I log on as (domain) administrator everything works fine. aswDisp.exe is set to “start as an administrator”. Otherwise avast would have problems to start its tasks. The user has got local administrator rights.
Is there any other *.exe file which needs to be started as an administrator? I would be happy if anyone has some more ideas to solve this problem.
No. I haven’t solved that “start as admin” problem yet… and it doesn’t seem to be the solution either…
I just found out that giving aswDisp.exe the “start as admin” checkmark doesn’t help starting avast by it’s own. You still have to allow this executable to start in the blocked autostart programs dialog. If the user does not have admin rights this will become a big problem!
Giving aswQuick.exe the “start as admin” checkmark does not help either. I still get the Error basInitLibrary…
Man - I’m starting to become real nervous about this whole Vista stuff. Nothing works as it should.
disabling UAC helps. Although I think disabling one security feature in order to enable another security feature is not the best solution. There’s got to be another way! Does no one have any more ideas? Hello developers, pros, avast!-junkies?
