Downloaded Avast from your site.
Just installed Avast! 4.8.1335 (latest version). After removing MSE beta and ran CCleaner, just in case.
Got a problem with Avast and the Security Center, saying Avast is ‘Switched Off’ and ‘Out of Date’.
I have tried to update the database, but doesn’t want to update - stays on 07/07/09.
Note: Running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 installed and UAC on.

Carefully check the system date, time and year.
Its Saturday 8:12PM July 18th 2009 here.
Sometimes, Windows Security Center stops recognizing your antivirus or firewall… So, check your system time and date like YoKenny said and also http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534

Thanks for the replies.
This is what I did immediately after posting;
Downloaded the latest definitions from Avast website
→ Installed it, and it said I already had the latest def. db.
Left my computer switched over night to download some files (i.e. Linux bootable disc → Moblin (which is cool)).
And now I have just checked my computer, and the notification from Windows is gone.
Also the correct date is showing up in Avast, when I start it up.
Well, maybe a temporary glitch at Security Center. Glad it is solved now

Great you got the same windows as me and its 32 bits here for me. So if you want u can turn on Windows Defender with Avast! 4.8 Home/Pro running and Malwarebytes Free for on demand scanner. And Vista Firewall and UAC + Windows Update Automatic On for Windows Products and Microsoft. That what i do and its run fine and fast here.
