I have an AVG Internet Security license valid till December 2022 given to me by a friend. But AVG’s forum don’t have the similar support that Avast’s forum has. I also saw when someone posts about AVG related issue here, it’s usually suggested by this forum’s members to try if that occurs on Avast. Which is understandable, but as we know, they are basically the same product underneath. So if it’s a core issue, then Avast and AVG both suffers from the same bug. So devs who monitor this forum probably won’t have trouble fixing AVG’s bug either.
But because of this forum I’m using Avast free at the moment even though I have an AVG IS license.
I’m also thinking if Avast switches to Avast One exclusively in the future, then AVG would probably the best choice for those who prefer the old Avast UI considering AVG’s UI not changing.
So, I’m confused whether should I keep using Avast Free for better support on this forum or use AVG Internet Security.
Support is separate, whilst there are components and functions that are the same, but the product range also differs, as does the UI.
So Avast Users that help in these forums simply can’t help as we aren’t familiar with the AVG product. Plus many posts here are accompanied by images to help the user, these would be different.
A very long time ago when Avast Software bought AVG, it was stated the two would remain different and that included support as you wouldn’t want to upset many AVG users if it was all brought under the Avast branding. I though that would be a couple of years and then all would become one, but that hasn’t happened, so things are still separate.
Take this line of thinking to the takeover/merger of NortonLifeLock and Avast Avast Software when it is complete, you wouldn’t be asking questions about Avast on NortonLifeLock product support.
You’re right but still, for AVG it’s basically the same. Norton is completely a different product at the moment with their own engine and everything. But AVG and Avast is the same. Even the UI is the same in general. Only the Home UI is different, but the settings page is the same. Even both product’s build version is exactly the same. But despite that I kind of understand that since it’s an Avast forum it’s only logical to talk about Avast here only.
Sorry it isn’t basically the same, with different User Interfaces and some components (AVG has a slightly different range/mix of products), people in the Avast forums can’t really help.
Not to mention it creates confusion and are essentially off-topic posts. The same would be true if you ask questions about Avast in the AVG forum.
You only have to look at the Beta Section of these forums to see that Avast and AVG have different builds

The version number is slightly different, but the build number is exactly the same.
The latest Avast and AVG builds at the time of writing is, “(build 21.9.6698.704)”
