Avast! Won't Start

I decided to start using Avast! 4 Home because I had trouble with AVG. The problem is I can’t get the Simple Interface to load. I get the two blue balls in my systray at startup, but when I double click the main icon on my desktop, I get the hourglass and then nothing.

Does anyone know how to combat this? Avast! will be pretty useless if I can’t start up the main interface!

What happens if you right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus or Run C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashSmpl.exe ?

Are you getting any errors in the avast Log Viewer, right click the avast icon ?

How did you get rid of AVG ?

Which is your firewall? Any other security program? Which is your operational system?
