Vista home premium-I uninstalled Norton Internet Security using Windows add/remove programs. Then I installed Avast Home edition, BUT it won’t update, even when prompted (right click, update…). Windows firewall and windows defender are running, no other malware or av products. Norton uninstall seemed to work OK with several re-boots as different components were removed.
When trying to update Avast, I click on iAVS update and nothing happens - no program seems to start, just nothing!!
I can access the internet OK with IE.
Any clues about where to look, please?
Regards,
Roger
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
Warning The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer. If you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases before you proceed.
1 Download the Norton Removal Tool. ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
Save the file to the Windows desktop.
2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.
3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.
You may have to run a repair of avast afterwards. Probably not though.
