Hi all have just installed the latest version of avast free on my friends laptop for him. when i try to update it it comes up with “cannot connect to server” . However I can connect to the internet. I have tried a clean install but still nothing. Have just got rid of “My security centre virus”. Any ideas please.

What Firewall are you using?
Do you have allowed avast update process on the firewall?
Hi I have just tried that still no luck!
The message I am getting is Cannot connect to download844.avast.com (174.120.186.42:80)
Maybe an clean install of your firewall will solve your problem…
Remove your actual version (make sure you remove everything) and install it again.
Its windows firewall, windows 7. i haven’t got the discs at the moment so don’t want to get rid of the firewall now.

Open the avast GUI, click on Settings - Updates - Proxysettings

I have set up avast! to use Auto detect (use Internet Explorer settings)
You do not have to get rid of windows firewall.
