Avast?

I have Norton and I am thinking about changing to Avast but before I do I Would like to know what is the difference between Avast and Norton? I am thinking about changing because I suspect that Norton is not working like it should. Would Avast help and do better than Norton? I am not a computer wiz and I would just like to know if I should change to Avast and if I did would it keep my computer clean from viruses more than what Norton does?

Thanks

Hello Mystery,

Well as they say “The proof is in the pudding”. Try Avast, give it the time to get the grip of it, and you will certainly like this AV solution like hoards of people like us. I have used Norton for quite some years, at home and at work. At the work place I had trouble with some third party certificates slowing Norton down, not really their fault. Norton can be quite consuming on the cycles. Before you start to use Avast as your AV product, clean every trace from Norton’s program from your machine and temp
ffiles. See Bob’s post in this thread:

Use only one, and I repeat one resident AV product on your computer. You could, as sort of second opinion and for completion put a version of the non-resident ClamWin AV solution on your computer as well. We here in this forum think that you are then aptly protected. But do not forget to have other protection as well, with that I mean Firewall (only one), Anti-Spyware and Anti-Adware programs are the least you need. Welcome to the
club of enthousiastic Avast users, you will soon feel at home here,

Mystery, to uninstall Norton (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=16668.msg141590#msg141590)

I’m an ex-Norton and I do not regret. This forum have tons of ex-NAV users.
I think there is not enough space to write avast! advantages ;D

Free, daily updates (not weekly like NAV), incremental and fast updates, skin, lower resources than NAV, dedicated providers to fit your needs, tons of settings (not a closed box like NAV), excelent forum support… 8)

Thank you guys for helping me but I got a couple more questions. What Avast program should I download? Should I download the Avast 4 Home Edition?

You will download the same file for Home and Professional versions.
For the first 60 days it’s a trial version and then it becomes the Home version.
If you use a registration key the ‘setup file’ will identify if you have the Home or the Pro version and will make the adjustments.
Shorty, download, register, get the key and use the Home version. If you like, buy the Pro. 8)
