I have fully updated Win7 SP1 running Avast6 (also up to date)
Often times the orange ball icon is missing from my system tray / sys notification area.
It is not simply hidden - extender menu doesn’t show it - and besides option set to always show.
Avast Antivirus service is running - but not confident i am being protected!
Advice or help please,
Thank you,
Ampa
Which was your previous antivirus?
Any other security program?
Did you try repairing the avast installation?

Previous AV: Avast 5
Other security: Comodo Firewall 5 Free
By repair what do you mean precisely? I am trying a reinstall > modify > ensure all components selected (except language translations)
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
Isn’t Comodo or Defense+ blocking anything on avast? avastUI.exe for instance?

OK done the repair as you suggested.
Checked Comodo logs, couldn’t see anything to do with AvastUI. Some mentions of AvastScv but nothing that seemed odd. Still - cleared the log and will keep an eye on it.
For now icon is present.
Thanks for your help so far

To get the orange ball in the system tray:
Start/Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/Taskbar an Start Menu/Customize
Find Avast Icon
Under “Behaviors” select “Show Icon and Notifications”
Not sure if you have to re-boot or not???
Hope this helps. This seems to be a common problem.

Peter, there is little value in responding to a topic that is over a year old, and for a different version of avast.
So it is hard to say this is a common problem when talking of a historic topic, certainly not for the latest version of avast.
