avastsvc.exe-application error

I’m using 7.0.1456 free on two Win XP Home sp3 pcs and have the same problem on both:

whenever I’m installing a new program or when some programs update, I get this message:

avastsvc.exe-application error
the exception unknown software exception(0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location
(0x65922881)

What is even more puzzling is that the software installs properly.

Can anybody give me any insight into this?

Try doing a repair of avast!
add/remove - select avast and scroll down to repair.
When it’s finished, reboot and see if your problem is solved.

Do you have any recent unpXXXXX.tmp files in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log
?
