Ok, my comp xp sp3, avast does not have any scheduled task, stopping real time shields does not help/only one to cause the trouble is the network shield that managed to find a few threats.
avastSvc.exe is using all the cpu, unfort, my comp is “monocore” XD and that is bad
read previous post, nothing is scanning, realtime shield stoped = cpu still used
usually 95-99% of the cpu is used says task manager
what else can i say? this problem is bugging me for a while, but now im just fed up with it.
at the time of this message i was using: Opera, Pidgin, Teamviewer, Dropbox, Acrobatreader, Auto Hot key, and no unusual programs in task manager using cpu or ram came into my view
That is what you need to bear in mind it is not Avast but the programmes it is acting as proxy for… All internet connections are sent through webshield to protect you
now it says 0/0 and up time is about 9 hours
yes, but why the f*** is the proxy still consuming cpu if i closed the live shield
btw, for about 3 hours since i posted the first post, svc.exe is still hogging the cpu
It will stop when you are not using the internet… If you have ten tabs open in opera then all will be routed through Avastsvc… If you have torrents then they will all be routed through Avastsvc
If there are no net connections then the shields should be using next to no CPU
This is my Avastsvc with one tab open in IE and dropbox running
@ pigmentty
Where are you getting this “now it says 0/0 and up time is about 9 hours” information from, e.g. where in the avastUI as for us 0/0 is no files scanned and obviously no infections detected ?
What is also confusing me is the up time is about 9 hours as I can’t see any up time information in the individual shields stats.
If it relates to the web shield then the 0/0 indicates something blocking it, but it shouldn’t be consuming CPU. However the avastSvc.exe is the main avast service and controls all of the shields not just the localhost proxy of the web shield, etc. so any activity (scanning) of avast would generate CPU activity.
When you see this high CPU activity for avastSvc.exe is the avast tray icon rotating ?
up time, is what time is now minus time computer was turned on, also here’s a pic of the live shields
also, now the tray icon has an X and not rotating, x is because i turned off the shields
If avast isn’t running and there are still CPU spikes then there is something more serious going on than the reported CPU activity. That would appear that avast has frozen, locked up.
If you haven’t already done so reboot, if that doesn’t resolve it - Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
How long have you had avast installed ?
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
