AVASTSVC.EXE is locking up my PC regularly.

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW THERE’S SUPPOSED TO BE SOME EASY SOLUTION AND I’VE TRIED A COUPLE.

The next solution I can think of is named McAfee if I have to search or put up with this much longer. I PAID for this?

Funny, once a problem is considered solved the %@$#&% solution goes off to hide in a maze.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I don’t know, I’m busy with life, I pay the around $40-some every April and load what’s given.
I got a Bronze thingus on the account page and IIRC that’s what I went with years ago now.

I am running Spybot-SD and it’s all on WinXP Pro.
This install has only had Avast AV IIRC and I didn’t have problems all this time.

As far as I can tell either the AV thinks the PC is idle even when I am typing and using the mouse or it doesn’t like something but doesn’t want to tell me what. It doesn’t pull this crap so often when I’m running Seamonkey or watching videos but let me pull up the Arduino IDE or another compiler or try to mess with FreeCol and it’s worse than rush hour traffic.

This has been going on some time but I thought it was other things. Then I finally pulled up the Task Manager and it didn’t take long to just hight AVASTSVC.EXE and see it running 99 for long periods when even the Avast User Interface has to wait and wait.

Come on, WTF? 99? That’s 100% CPU usage. WHY? For most of this, EVEN 10% FOR ME would let me get something done!
Unless it HAS to be 100% there is no excuse for that kind of coding.

Right click the Avast icon in system tray and select ‘About Avast’.

Avast Internet Security - Program Version 10.3.2223

First, be sure to get rid of Spybot…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

I’ll give that a shot when I get my current code wrapped up and posted (fun with lookup tables).
And I’ll give someone a head’s up for telling me that Spybot and Avast belong together.

Asyn… as in asynchronous person or asynch/event-driven coder?

OK, report back…

Now all I need is to go and get a PS2 keyboard because SAFE MODE doesn’t recognize my USB keybd.

If anyone want to prove that there’s a deity who is very angry with us, all they need to do is point to Microsoft and Apple.
