AvastUI.exe - Bad Image

I’m getting an error with Avast.

A pop up window saying “Avast UI.exe - Bad Image”

C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AavmRpch.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000005."

What should I do?

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I’m using Avast Free

I’m not sure but probably the latest version. I just installed Avast yesterday from the avast.com

I just installed Windows 10 Pro 1709 yesterday. OS Build 16299.1087

I got no other security related software installed other than Windows Defender that came with Windows 10.

I’ve used BitDefender before, but this is a fresh install of Windows 10 so no history of other AVs other than Windows Defender was installed right now.

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I can’t open Avast. When I try to open it, it shows a pop up which I mentioned before. Also other System Error popup. I’ll show pictures.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!
→ https://support.avast.com/article/11/

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Repair avast:1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
2. Click on ‘Uninstall’.
3. Follow instructions.(Click Repair)
4. Reboot.

I tried this, followed each step. When the loading finished up on the bottom right of the screen. Nothing happened. I tried opening Avast but nothing shows up, but the processes are still running.

I will try this method now.

Same issue. Processes are running in the task manager but won’t open when I try.
