AvastUI.exe errors on boot-up

On Avast version 7.0.1466 using WIN 7 OS, I have been getting a message box on boot-up that says the following (example):

AvastUI.exe Error - The Instruction at 0x00006572 referenced memory at 0x0000652.

The memory could not be written.

Click OK to terminate the program.

Avast appears to be running as far as I can see.

Web sites are suggesting there could be a problem:

avastUI.exe
Important: If your PC is producing avastUI.exe errors, you should check your Windows operating system immediately!

avastUI.exe is normally found in the directory %programfiles%\Alwil Software\Avast5. If the file is located in another folder, you may have selected this path when installing the software. Under certain circumstances, this can also be an indication of a virus.
