Well, the Subject pretty much says it all. The rest of avast free would appear to be operating correctly.
I have had avast free 17.9.2322 for some time and this missing tray icon started to occur a day or so ago. I checked WinPatrol Plus and it shows AvastUI.exe in the startup programs (with a Command of AvLaunch.exe /gui) but it doesn’t show its status as Running.
Manually running AvastUI.exe starts the UI and the tray icon remains after closing the UI, but it doesn’t appear to run on boot, certainly not in the last couple of days…
I have just seen something else (possibly similar, but the old UI failed to load error) in the Russian sub-forum. However, I think that this is different as they are presumably trying to run the UI from the tray icon, which I didn’t have.
I’m going to restart and see if it is replicated again.
I’m not sure this is exactly the same, other than the avast tray icon not being present, I get no other errors and the main avast service (AvastSvc.exe) is running.
Of course if the avastUI isn’t running in the background without the icon, then the display of errors could be a moot point.
Can it be, that it is a problem with my third party Firewall? (I use this firewall since 4 years. Never had problems together with Avast. I only had to allow same rights (popup), when avast tries to make some updates from time to time. But until now it was never a problem.)
I went through all rules for Avast. I did not find any roule, that denyes anything.
But in the firewall log of blocked events I found this:
(No idea while this was blocked. And I do not know how to allow, what is blocked in this log, because as said, I have not blocked anything of Avast)
Can’t you add a rule to allow what was blocked ???
I’m quite happy with the Windows Firewall so don’t know what you’re using or how it works.
Could also try uninstalling and reinstalling your firewall to start allowing all over again.
I have reset defaults on the Start Button > Properties > Task bar and subsequently reset my personal settings, the Avast tray icon is now present. That said WinPatrol Plus still shows AvastUI.exe as a startup entry, but shows no Status. However, there are two others (not avast related) that also don’t show a Status and they appear to be running as they should.
