Sorry, I’m actually using AVG Internet Security, but the AVG forum is a little too quiet so I’m asking it here. Avast, AVG, (almost) the same thing anyway.
Probably since the latest update, if I create any custom Network Rule, it instantly breaks the firewall, causing it unable to detect nor filter applications.
Set to Smart Mode: Nothing. No rules were created for new applications.
Set to Block Mode: Nothing. Any application can access to the Internet, even those I’ve set to block.
Set to Ask Mode: Nothing. Any application can access to the Internet anyway.
The Firewall will remain broken after I remove custom rules. The only way to fix this is resetting the Network/Application rules to default and never adding custom Network Rules.
Tried to reinstall it and it always behaves the same.
I don’t know if this happens to Avast too or it’s just me. Despite I doubt the Smart Mode Firewall actually does anything, it’s still bothersome.
At this point, I’m confused and a little upset maybe. Is it really just me, everyone’s Avast or AVG is totally fine, since I don’t see anyone complain or reply.
Adding network rule makes the firewall gone blind. Please fix it.
It persists in latest Avast beta 24.9.9452 (build 24.9.9452.762).
Could the team try to replicate:
Set the firewall to ask, or block.
Reset the rules to clean up application rules. (Or not, it doesn’t matter to be honest. It make the issue more obvious.)
Add a network rule, anything.
Launch some apps to see if you receive any popup or block. (I don’t. The firewall would stop detecting apps and blindly allow everything)
Did I misunderstand how the firewall worked? I’ve been using AVG for years and I don’t recall it behaved like this. I know firewalls in AVs these days basically automatically allow almost everything, but could you please look into this.
This is the last time I’m bumping this cause I’m feeling stupid here.
I tried Avast Premium (24.8.6127, build 24.8.9372.870) and AVG Internet Security (24.8.9372, build 24.8.9372.870) on a freshly installed Windows 10 in VM. The issue persists.
Hi Vebor, can post the rules.xml file - after the rest and then after you’ve added the rule? The gif file is a bit too quick for me to judge what has been created. Thanks. Lukas.
(or maybe I am already late and everything is solved now ? )
