Bad refund policy on renewal

My previous subscription was valid till 11/17/25 and I was charged a month earlier 10/13/25 for renewal. I missed their renewal email that early. When I asked for refund on 12/2/25 they would not refund my money or prorate even though they have a 30-day refund policy. I was told that I had to ask for a refund 30 days from 10/13/25 or by 11/13/25 even though old subscription would still be active till 11/17/25 and new subscription would have not started till after 11/17/25. If I would have manually paid for renewal around 11/17/25 I would have received a refund. They have a bad policy around renewals. SO, I URGE THE CUSTOMERS TO BE CAREFUL / OR DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AUTO RENEWAL.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

The Auto renewal payment mandate can be actioned up to 35 days in advance, why I do not know. I’m not sure if this is made clear when you take out a subscription and a payment mandate.

Personally I I wouldn’t take one out, but I’m using Avast Antivirus Free, if I switched to a paid version of Avast I would probably do it purchasing the subscription through another source. For example - Pc Pro magazine which I subscribe has a number of different genuine antivirus subscriptions (there are other sources). You don’t need to create an automatic renewal, just purchase again and enter the new subscription.

I learned what you are saying the hard way. Their policy is against their own best interest, Since they lost me as a customer for good for a few dollars and I used to be their proponent getting others to use their product,
