despite of sending samples of the youtube, orkut, mozilla blocking worm
to virus@avast.com from ONE MONTH…avast 000746-2 still does not detect this little bugger …i thought the whole thing was about quick response…???i can understand some delay…but ONE MONTH???
that worm is so amature that it unpacks all the source code into a folder… and also has a sound track which plays when the website is blocked …and all the files have .txt extension …infact i modified the code so that i can block the official microsoft site ;D ;D
i have attached the mp3 file with extension changed to .txt extension…so just change it to mp3 to listen to it… ;D ;D
i hope this gets the required attention needed…
so can i email the malware zipped and password protected to any of u moderators so that u guys can mail it to them cos all my efforts have been in vain…
more bad news all the other anti-vir software detects the virus
eg: sophos detects it as w32ahkheapa… http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32ahkheapa.html
this is a month old virus come on avast is getting sloppy…
and i did some searches and this virus does not even encrypt it contents it use winzip!!!
so i hope avast does something about it…
You can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest where it can do no harm and send it from there (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). No need to zip and PW protect when the sample is sent from chest. Samples sent via the chest/avast are filtered at source, so it is my hope that it will somehow receive a greater priority than the 4000+ emails received at virus at avast.com every day.
4000+…u gotta be kidding…right!!!
wat is the world coming to??? so is there any way on knowing how many viruses avast can detect till now?? i mean jus info on the grand total…
Nope that figure came from one of the Alwil team a few months ago so may well be more.
Some of those will be possible undetected/detected but not sure and possible false positives. Many will be reporting the same file or files, but they all have to be checked. That I believe is why those sent from the chest are filtered.
The total of detections in the VPS has been discussed many, many times before and the conclusion is it is just a figure, which can’t be compared against any other AV detections as they are likely not to count number of detections in the same way. avast tries to use generic detections where the number of variants of the same family/type of malware are detected with 1 generic signature, so you can’t put a figure on that. Some AVs use heuristics, how do you put a figure on that, the simple answer is you can’t so there is no way of comparison.
You can do a search of the virus database inserting the * wildcard which will return every signature including generic signatures in the database. This currently reveals 103684, which is just a figure which can’t be compared as there is no like for like comparison.
