Hello. I have been using avast4 for about 3 weeks now, and so far,no problems that I know of. My question iswhy will the blue avast ball icon NOT show up in my system tray? I remeber seeing it there when I downloaded avast,but now it is gone. Any help would be welcomed. ;D
I could be that it is hidden.
Click on the arrow near the clock and see if it is there.
If not, do a repair of avast.
start > control panel > add/remove > avast > change/delete > rapair

Is ashdisp.exe running?
Check taskmanager to see if it is.
Do you or did you have another anti virus installed?
If so, which one?
avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut).
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Even easier, just check the option in the Appearance tab of settings
