Basic settings

I just have a quick question on the basic settings I have avast pro latest, I have 4 shields enable, are they suppose to be set high, normal or what? I’m not having any sort of problem but I wanted to know if its right. I have windows mails not oe. I am using windows vista home premium, thanks

The default for the avast provider is Normal, this provides a good balance between protection and performance. If you want it higher you can change it.

I would set the Internet Mail provider at High and I also have the Web Shield set to High, other than that everything is set to Normal.

Thanks, I set internet mail and web shield high and network and standard shield to normal, those are the only 4 running, thanks good to know, I also have comodo firewall running and all is good no comflicts

No problem, glad I could help.

The Network Shield sensitivity slider has no impact anyway and IMO is more there to look like the other providers.

When avast earned ‘Advanced’ by AV-Comparatives the settings were high (-> with best possible settings). So should i also run avast with settings high or just normal settings? ::slight_smile:

Well as far as I’m aware avast was Advanced not Advanced+ (Feb tests not released until March 10th) and I have no idea what settings were used.

The Normal setting is concerned with scanning the more serious/risky (those likely to get infected and executable) files like exe, etc. but increasing the sensitivity you still get those scanned but would also get other files scanned that weren’t considered a big risk.

There is nothing stopping you upping the sensitivity, but your system may be slowed depending on your system specs. If you have no performance issues then you have no problem.

I have had mine on normal for almost 4 years and no issues, but I also exercise other measures and practice safe hex.

I’ll think not. Normal is the best balance between protection and performance.
If you’re paranoid, don’t hesitate, use High ;D

I will try this tomorrow!

Edit: You are right, it was advanced.
