So for the past few days my family has been having issues with internet connection dropping, first i thought it was the modem but ive just gone over the logs on my router and found what looks like a DoS attack.
The earlier issues on the router log were entries like these "[LAN access from remote] from 179.8.185.74:52352 to 192.168.1.8:14623, Friday, October 28,2016 22:50:08 " all with different ip addresses coming from my mothers PC, did some looking up and decided to turn off UPnP.
shortly after turning UPnP off i saw this log entry "[DoS attack: RST Scan] from source: 188.121.36.239:80, Friday, October 28,2016 23:01:17
Contact your ISP and have them check things.
The chances of someone attempting a DoS attack on you are very very very unlikely.
It’s extremely easy to spot, and block a DoS attack. More to the point, the individual sending the attack, must have greater bandwidth then you do. On top of that, people don’t attack people at random. So either you pissed someone off, they typed the wrong IP in, or it’s not actually a DoS attack. (Most likely option #3)
DoS Attacks are extremely dated and rudimentary form for Script Kiddies. They usually result in little or no damage done.
DDoS attacks are a different matter, and if you’re being DDoS’d, you’d have known a long time ago something was happening. (DDoS’s are the ones that took down Dyn)
