Behavior Sheild Causes WMPlayer Exception

OS: Windows XP Media Centre Edition - SP3.

Avast: 6.0.1203. Removed and re-installed.

Windows Media Player 11.05.571.5280

Launching a WMV file causes “wmplayer.exe Application Error”. “The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812afb.”

The error doesn’t ocur if I turn off “Monitor the system for unauthorised modifications” in the Behavior Sheild Expert settings. If I leave the setting on I get no other information than the wmplayer error, even if I set the Behavior Sheild setting to “Ask”.

Any ideas what’s wrong and how to fix?

Thanks,

Heliax

Can you try the latest beta (6.0.1270) and check?

Tech,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

As suggested I installed 6.01270, unfortunately it hasn’t helped. Behavior with wmplayer is as before.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks,

Heliax

I’ll need to ask for help for the programmers…

You can try updating Windows Media Player to 11.05.572.5280

Is there any associated dump file etc? (when Windows displays the message about wmplayer.exe crashing, there’s usually a Details >> link and then a way to display the files associated with the crash; it would be great if we could get those files).

Thanks
Vlk
