Best free user friendly firewall to work with Avast AV free?

Hey everyone,

What is the best top overall rated free user friendly firewall to work with Avast AV free, and the firewall with Avast AV won’t cause any sort of problems? I believe Comodo Firewall with this AV is not a good user friendly combination as I have read from time to time? I won’t try the combination then.

Have you tried Private Firewall which is free their are some Avast users are using this along side with Avast free AV

You can try the Comodo [ http://download.cnet.com/Comodo-Firewall/3000-10435_4-75181464.html ] the version 5.xx not the 6.xx works great with avast free

no it will not.....as avast free does not have a firewall ;)

Windows firewall......especially if you are not familiar with using firewall and and all the pop up questions

If your running Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, use the windows firewall.
It’s already on your computer and does the job.

Best is subjective and depends on the users requirements.

Most firewalls work with avast free and there are many out there, I would argue that I have the best one already (in my signature, but it isn’t free) as will others as for them it best suits their needs.

There have been a number of firewall topics in these forums and the number of suggestions are numerous.

All of the above work well with avast and have HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Software)

Unless you know what you’re doing, I’d stay away from HIPS

The problem is HIPS has many different interpretations/meanings and implementations, so they all aren’t the same.

Outposts being highly configurable if the user has the inclination or simply switch it into Simple Mode, if it isn’t already there as the default. This isn’t very noisy in simple mode.
