Since the latest Avast update, Avast is blocking my Bigpond email account.
Both sending and receiving.
This was not an issue prior to the update.
How do I correct this situation?
Setup your account correctly in your mail client.
You may have to import avast’s certificate in it.
This could help:

Naa this is definitely an update problem with avast.
I finally restarted my computer today and the avast was allowed to finish its installation… and emails stopped working.
emails should not need certificates, if you do then many many users will stay away from avast.
the constant popups that are getting more and more were starting to get annoying, but this might be the straw that broke the camels back.
Its sad, because I used to install this on every computer of friends and family because it was good.
I found a fix. It seems the redirection module is not working correctly.
Maybe some special setup is required if you wanna use this feature, but myself I just wanted emails to work correctly LOL
So realise that the redirection module will not work if that is a problem for you.
Myself I am a little upset this was enabled by default and broke my email and required me to muck around for an hour finding the problem.
If you’re having this problem, here’s the fix:
-
Open Avast
-
Click on ‘Settings’ (upper right corner of page)
-
Click on ‘Troubleshooting’
-
Click on ‘Redirect Settings’
-
Clear all the port #'s from each field
-
Check ‘Ignore Local Communication’
-
Click ‘OK’
-
Close Avast
emails should not need certificatesYou are wrong about that. If you use ssl mail, the certificate is needed in order to be able to scan the mails.
You haven’t found a fix at all.
Only thing you found is a workaround.
The only thing people have to do is setup the email account in the client correctly and it will work.
Yes, I did actually find a fix for our problem.
The problem is … WE DO NOT HAVE SSL MAIL … and it is thinking we do.
My fix is valid and works to resolve the issue, hopefully next update they will fix this bug.
WE DO NOT HAVE SSL MAILare you sure? .... as that is not the info found here https://www.google.no/search?client=opera&q=bigpond+mail+settings&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
anyway, as long as it works for you
Bigpond does indeed have SSL available, you are correct.
But we are not using it. Port 25 and 110, pretty standard non-SSL ports, and that is all we are using.
I even deleted the non-ssl ports from avast but it still blocked… I had to delete ports that are not even in my mail account before it worked.
That is why its obviously a bug.
I do understand if I changed to SSL and setup a certificate for avast and went through all that I cold most likely get it to work…
But I have NEVER had to do that before the other day, I shouldn’t be made to use ssl for my mail just because avast is not working correctly.
