Bl**** Google infestation

So now, on top of everything else, we have Google Chrome rammed in our faces every single time we answer, or make a post???

Avast … >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( kindly place your Chrome where the sun refrains from shining.

At least omit it for those of us who are already using Chrome as our default browser.
We don’t need to be convinced. We already are… >:(

Opera 12.16 is my default browser, and it is staying that way.

I can’t decide if this software should now be called Chrovast or Goovast. ::slight_smile:

A quick search of the forum code allowed me to remove the problem … ;D

Well AdBlockPlus in firefox can block the Google Chrome icon, but so far I haven’t found a way to block the Big Blue button SHOUTING at us.

It is the regular forum helpers getting the brunt of this Google branding. I shudder to think how those who come to complain about Chrome being installed will find this.

I don’t see this as a subtle indication that chrome won’t be offered in the avast installation.

Try Element Hiding Helper for ABP.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/elemhidehelper/?src=ss

Thanks will take a look at that, couldn’t find a way in the normal ABP.

A very simple cure:

I no longer see the ad.

This isn’t possible using AdBlockPlus add-on in firefox, but ad block for Chrome works, but that kind of defeats the purpose use chrome to block the ad.

Update: Whilst this doesn’t work with firefox ABP, but using the Element Hiding Helper for ABP allows you to select the DIV class element and the ad is completely gone.

Not really, since I’m already using Chrome as my default browser, I don’t need to be convinced.
I also don’t need to see the ad.

Why does an anti virus program recommend using Google Chrome? What does Avast have to do with Google Chrome?

Even if someone were to pay me I would never use that spying Browser.

Silly question Why not just ignore it. I dislike chrome as a browser but there again I do not like firefox either. Yet I have no problem, after all it is Avast’s website

But your post doesn’t mention that fact it only works if you already have chrome and ad block.

You might want to check other areas of the forums, the main index.php page as the DIV class innerframe element covers more than where this ad is.

Add a rule to ABP saying: forum.avast.com##div#google-chrome instead

@David,
I mention that Chrome is my default Browser and that I use AdBlock.
I has eliminated the ad on all parts of the forum.
I still see the Ad when I use Chrome Browser on my smart phone.

It isn’t just the ad that it might remove, if you have targeted the DIV class innerframe as the blocked element, then on the index.php page you also lose the Recent Posts, Forum Stats and Users Online, as they within the DIV class innerframe. I suspect that this may be the case for some other pages.

Having already found this hiccup effecting other things within the innerframe, I blocked the div#google-chrome element using the Advanced settings in the Element Hiding Helper for ABP and that just targets the google-chrome element.

Good Point. It is at the bottom of the page. However, may I ask what browser you use?

No, it is in every post you make or reply to, plus it follows you to your profile, it is right in your face at every turn … or was ;D

I use IE 11 straight out of the box, unlike the need to get the necessary extensions to make Firefox and chrome function

I personally feel that there is a type of paranoia about google, the greatest evil in the world. Either use it or ignore …simples

In Google Chrome you can hide it via ABP and the element via dynamite extension.
When it is annoying to you add to the ABP filter.
Everyone is doing it, firefox now has ads in your face for a trial period at least.
Developers want a living, I understand.
Soon Internet ads launching gonna look like commercial TV,
but there you can at least use that time to “go and spend a penny” ;D

polonus

P.S. It is also redirecting from http://www.google.com/chrome?brand=AVSF&installdataindex=googlehomepage&hl=en redirects to https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?brand=AVSF&installdataindex=googlehomepage&hl=en
(avast does not scan https :frowning: )

D

So one thing I have noticed is if I tell ABP to block the google chrome advert it also blocks who is shown online and also recent topics posted on in the main forum page. Is there a way to block the advert but still allow that through the addon(preferably without installing another addon)?
