Blackout Virus?

Oh geez. Another suspicious thing.

I was just browsing along the web and scanning my computer when suddenly my screen just blacks out. Is there a virus involved?

Thank you for your time and effort

Difficult to say…
We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • What were you doing at that time? Which programs were opened?
  • Do the fans are working correctly in the computer or it is overheated?
  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
  • Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?
  • Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.

Right now I am using Avast! Home Edition with the latest database number(sorry I am using a library terminal computer and am unable to reach mine).
The only two programs I was using was avast and Mozilla Firefox – i forgot what website, but nothing harmful that I know of.

hmm
Windows Firewall, Spyware Doctor, and Spyware Terminator without the Real-Time Shield on.

All I did was hold the computer’s shut down button… only thing I could do :-\

But does this occur all the time now, i.e., you can’t boot anymore or it just happened once, at that time the monitor became black?

Nope Just this once

So… should you worry that much? Is everything working now?

hmm. You know? You’re right I shouldn’t.
Sorry I really want my computer to be perfect in every aspect.
Thanks a lot for your help.

ps Are you online all the time?

In background, yes… not all the time monitoring the forums…

hmm
ok thanks anyway

Varsok,

You did not mention how old the monitor is. It could be that the monitor itself is starting to fail.

Anyway, if all is ok now, I would not worry about it unless it happens again.

thank you, but I know for one thing that that is definetely not the problem. ;D

My computer is a toshiba laptop bought a year ago
