blaster worm\ help a MOM

Avast found the blaster worm and I deleted it, but if I turn my firewall off it comes right back and shuts my PC down. Also, when i turn my PC off and start it again, it says no modem detected and I have to reinstall it again, also when it starts up a java virtual machine main class not detected comes up, also, a run time error 9 comes up. Says something about no Internet Explorer driver. I know its alot but I have tried to clear this all up and can’t. I am hoping you will be kind enough to help me. I am new so it will have to be step by step. I do not know where everything is yet. Thank you much. Oh, I am using XP pro

I do not know the english Windows enough to give you all advices. Maybe you will able to get everything work if you use the Systemrestore funktion of Windows XP and than make a Windowsupdate. After that you would not get infected by a RPC Worm again. Or just disable DCOM : http://www.grc.com/dcom/

I had that worm too :frowning: . my suggestion is to scan HDD from other compiuter or operating system. w32:blaster often is in system volume directory. If you trying to restore your windows to earlier time you just vasting your time. its very important to UPDATE your windows because it helps :).but like I said scan your HDD from other compiuter before updating. I hope I said true ;D

If it is still giving you problems

Download Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Another tool that can be used is Fixblast
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

Most importantly, get your windows updated afterward. ;D

I used the Fixblaster it said there is none. But I just scanned again and it was still detected

  1. Shutdown the RPC service. Start, run, services.msc
  2. Get all security patches/updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com
  3. Run a virus scan (make sure the datebase is updated)
  4. Run TheCleaner from www.moosoft.com

This will solve it all.
