A friend of mine is bugged my the bloodhound.w32.ep virus, as detected by his Norton Anti-Virus. This virus is also called W95.CIH.1049 and is very destructive! His Norton System were unable to remove the infected files from his hdd. My Avast Home edition does not have this virus in its dictionary… can anybody help?
Hi,
-
Please read link “VirusRemoval” below
-
what WIN does your friend have ?
What file-system (Fat or NTFS) ?
where is the virus located ?
Here are some links to instructions and mabye removal-tools:
the red linsk to Trendmicro, Symantec & mcafee are usually the most helpful…
(P.S.: Those two virus-names you gave imho don’t mean the same virus-variant)
Tnx for the responce…
According to my resources and your web-links the two virus-names are the same virus-variant… ???
The virus is suppose to activate today (August 2) according to the Symantec website. My friend didn’t phone me yet, but I assume he wont be affected because he has Windows XP…
I think he has a NTFS file-system and that the virus is locatd in his system32 directory, but I’m not shure…
My friend usually calls me when he has PC problem, so I’m just trying to help…
I feel it is necessary to remove the virus even though it does not threaten his system… so what advice should I give him? (he doesn’t know much about computer)
Cheers
;D
without further info (e.g. full path & Confirmation by Onlinescanners & exact identification of the variant)
I can only advise him/you, to work through the links, and follow instructions/use the mentioned removal-tools
you could also move the file to quarantine in SafeMode (F8-Boot), and hope and see, that the PC still works after a reboot…
or use the Norton-(rescue)-CD to boot and scan the PC…
tengo el virus bloodhound.32.ep y no se como quitarlo espero me digan muy pronto como por que me esta ocasionando muchos problemas
bloodhound.w32.ep is not a virus name, but a heuristically generated name (Bloodhound is NAV heuristic module)

FYI
I just wanted to let everyone know…believe it or not…the Bloodhound.W32.EP virus DOES affect the Windows XP Operating System. I have seen it personally at least three times and reported the findings to Symantec. Just recently…Feb…or course, a co-workers personal computer was infected with this. She has a Compaq Laptop with original install of Windows XP. So don’t take for granted Symantec’s website when they and others say it does not affect Windows XP systems. Ok…good!
FYI
As long as it has tag W32 or Win32 it can infect 2000/XP systems thats for sure.
